The Coup Agency
The Coup Agency in Milton, PA was founded by Edward J. Coup in 1926. Ed began selling insurance part-time for Retailers Mutual Insurance Company, while working at the Milton-Standard newspaper as an advertising manager. He had immediate success and began working full-time in 1927.
In 1936, the Real Estate branch was added to the agency, with the sale of a home for $4,000. Ed was well known throughout the area for his business professionalism and community service. Ed was active in the agency until his death in 1991.
Ed’s son, Robert E. Coup, joined the agency in 1946. Bob continued the growth of the agency in both insurance and real estate. He also continued the tradition of professionalism, excellence and community service. In 1983, Bob retired from the agency for medical reasons.
Today, the agency is owned by the third generation of the Coup family. R. Jeffrey (Jeff) Coup, CPCU, joined the agency in 1974 and Richard E. (Rick) Coup, followed in 1978. Jeff manages the Insurance Department and Rick is the Managing Broker for the Real Estate Department.
In 1985, the agency expanded with a branch office in Lewisburg, PA. The agency has seen strong growth throughout its history. According to Jeff, the key to their growth is that they don’t set out to sell anybody anything. They simply offer the highest degree of respect and professional service to clients and prospects and the rest takes care of itself.
The entire staff at The Coup Agency believe in friendly professionalism and follow management's lead in service to others. This is evident by the agency's recognition by the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way as a 100% contributing business.
